all right welcome back to another episode of cappuccino chat this time we're talking about our aging parents and the technology they use so this time we're going to talk about our aging parents and the different technology they use um I find myself you know now that my parents are getting older I'm getting older I just find myself worrying about and helping with technology just a little bit more and I don't mean just helping them program or work the TV remote it's not like that anymore there's so many devices that they have that are either dependent on technology um new technology that you and I have maybe never even seen or heard of before that it just brings about a worry of who's getting access to that data who's seeing that data what happens if that data doesn't you know get transmitted in a timely fashion is you know what could happen those kind of worries so on a recent trip back uh to visit my parents um talking with my dad and stuff I just was reminded of some of the different stuff and he kind of brought it up to me and you know they have let's say their blood glucose monitors they have maybe oxygen monitors they have my dad's got this pillow thing from some sensor that was you know put inside him monitoring heart stuff that he's got to lay on this one pillow and it's it's the craziest thing you've ever seen like he can be laying on this pillow and not move and it'll say it'll go from good signal to bad signal without movement it's it's the weirdest things but just all those different things and the frustrations that come of about for it for our parents is just more and more dependent upon technology some of it's because of remote medicine some of it's because of the ongoing monitoring that's needed to make sure that they don't go from you know zero to 100 and Split Second and and people can be alerted to take action on our benefit um so it's all good stuff but it is also worrisome from at least my standpoint not just from making sure that they can set it up but that it is secure so that kind of comes into play we need to make sure that we have um good good Wi-Fi if if it's if those medical devices rely on Wifi but in certain parts of their home that signal is weak or not very good that there could be a risk there right so we need to look at that we need to make sure we're keeping our home devices updated so like our wireless router our wireless equipment if we got some extenders in place those types of things the other thing I know is least with my dad is a lot of that stuff's controlled from apps on his cell phone like he's got one for his hearing aids he can adjust volume and do all this different stuff and well what happens if his cell phone's lost or stolen does he even know the account to read that stuff how would it does that mean he can't adjust his hearing needs anymore how would that work uh is that application need to be updated how often those types of things so I'm really just creating this video and I did a newsletter article on just to kind of bring awareness and maybe something that we all need to maybe take a step back from and and take a look at and you know just just make sure things are things are good for our parents we want to make we want to make sure that they're around for as long as we can have them uh time is precious so make sure you take a look at this stuff when you're um next time you're visiting your parents the other thing is make sure you look at some of their electronic devices so if they do have a a cell phone maybe a home computer look through their email real quick and just make sure they weren't scammed in any way shape or form and clicked on something did something they should have shouldn't have and those types of things because they're generous people hopefully they weren't ever scammed out of any money but we want to make sure that doesn't happen so periodically when you visit I mean don't Pro into the you know some of their uh stuff but take a look through stuff scan stuff make sure ask questions those kinds of things take a look at that stuff make sure that again we're we're keeping everybody safe now normally when I do these things I also tell you hey if you have any questions about any of this please reach out to me when it comes to the home network stuff what kind of home routers how do I make sure I keep it up to date those kind absolutely keep keep uh feel free to reach out to me when it comes to these medical devices though so um try to get involved either ask your parents these questions or try to get a hold of their doctors a lot of times you can just email questions into their office maybe you need to go on the next doctor's visit with your parents ask some questions about these apps and these sensors and the different things that they have and how safe is it who's monitoring it how often is it being monitored you really want to talk to those medical professionals to find out is there anything you need to make sure of on your side your parent side that is kept up to dat and and secured so make sure you make sure you check into the stuff again we want our parents around for as long as we can have them so let's let's make sure we do our part to keep them safe as always though like I just said if you do have those questions please feel free to reach out to me 76077 52000 or as always at our website thank you
