Welcome back to another episode of Cappuccino Chat. This time we're talking about those Alexa devices you have around your business and your home and why it's time to turn them off. So this time on Cappuccino Chat, we're going to talk about those Alexa devices that you have around your business and your home and why it may be time to turn them off, remove them, replace them with something else, etc. because they're now listening to everything you say and you cannot turn it off. So, effective March 28th of 2025. Um, Amazon made this change. So, they're starting with all of the Echo devices. Uh, it's only a matter of time before it rolls out to the other devices. So, that's why I am bringing this up to everybody, especially in your business environment. Uh, a lot of I've seen a lot of small businesses use these devices inside their office to uh give them reminders, add things to their calendar, um, do different things around the office with lights and stuff like that. It's kind of nice. It is a cool device. I I will give it that. Um, but now that it's recording everything and Amazon is using that data, now we need to start thinking about security. So, we need to start thinking about confidential information that might be picked up by one of these devices. HR related issues, right? Any of that uh employee stuff that you can't just have out, medical information, if you're in a doctor's office, uh and none of that for sure. All these devices definitely got to go. Um and proprietary trademark secrets, etc. You don't want any of that leaked out because I have you we have no idea how Amazon is going to use this data. Are they just going to use it to market to you more? Is it going to start showing up in their AI results when people start querying their AI engines for answers to different things? You don't want that to happen to you. So, we want to make sure that we get those devices turned off, um, moved, replaced, whatever it might be. And again, definitely for your business, but you may want to consider it at home as well, especially if you do business at home. Now, if you have a dedicated office, uh maybe just remove the device from that room. Uh but and if you're not worried about the rest of stuff being picked up throughout your house, okay, leave them leave them alone. Otherwise, let's get rid of those devices. Now, right now, this is just an Amazon issue, right? But we all know our phones and everything else from even Apple. I mean, let's be honest. They're always listening to us. And they kind of have to be, right? Because you can't just say, "Hey Siri," and oop, have something happen. Hey Alexa, and have some if it's not constantly listening. In the past, it was supposedly deleting anything it heard. So that unless you said those magic words, right? So, but who knows now? So again, just be careful with these devices being in the same room with you when you're talking about something confidential, HR related, proprietary, specific about clients, employees, etc. because you never know who's listening and how that data and information may be used. All right, if you have any questions, as always, please feel free to reach out to us at 760-770-52000. [Music]
