welcome back to another episode of cappuccino chat this time we're talking about the differences between perception and reality when it comes to cyber security so when it comes to cyber security the perception and the reality are often never the same when I'm talking to clients or new prospects uh looking to do business with us so most times when I start asking them about cyber security and are you concerned the answer of course is is yes but then when we get into the soup and nuts of it if you will and pricing and different things that we need to maybe do and recommend then they start getting a little leery because in their mind they say you know I've never been hacked I've never had my data stolen I've never done anything I've never lost anything those kinds of things just like when we talk about replacing equipment all times Well my computers last me eight nine 10 years why do I need to replace it these are different conversations we need to have so a lot of times one of my replies back is well how do you know you haven't been hacked or breached or had any data stolen so no longer are the threat actors going to just advertise themselves and maybe let you know right away that they have your data it may take months or even years before they Ransom off your data or make contact and let you know that hey we've got your data or hey you've been Ransom now pay us this Bitcoin a lot of times they're going to try to use that data or lie and wait and gather as much as they can most of us do business on an ongoing basis and we're constantly adding clients people we know credit card information we're hiring employees so we got new employee information all that stuff can be used for stealing somebody's identity opening up lines of credit or again just outright stealing the data so you don't necessarily know when that happens but our perception is everything's okay well everything's been okay doesn't mean that tomorrow things are okay threat actors are constantly getting better and better the invention of AI has made fishing emails and false web pages harder and harder to spot they're getting better and better so you never know what's going to happen around the corner tomorrow a week from now or a month from now so the best thing to do is always be looking at different cyber security now when having those conversations we need to really dive into how you use your data those types of things so not everybody is the same but a lot of those protections remain the same across everyone we need to educate our employees and ourselves we need to provide some additional safeguards to stop people from when we're in a hurry clicking or opening something that they otherwise would know better to do so we need to make sure that we align reality with our perception not perception with reality if you'd like more information on some additional cyber security you can do and have that discussion with us about what truly is possible with cyber security and the threats that are there and even maybe to find out if you've been hacked because you think right now I'm safe I'm good nothing's ever happened well that may not be the case and if you want to find out please reach out to us at 760-770 52
